Akash Mukherjee, MD

Dr. Akash Mukherjee is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist with a strong clinical background in treating both blood cancers and solid tumors. He also has specialized expertise in bone marrow transplantation, cellular therapies, and immunotherapies for treatment of advanced cancer. He earned his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India, before completing his internal medicine residency at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He went on to complete a hematology-oncology fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital and advanced fellowship training in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Prior to joining Highlands in 2026, Dr. Mukherjee served as Associate Medical Director of Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Cellular Therapy at Oncology Hematology Care (OHC) in Cincinnati from 2024-2026 and as a faculty member in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2019-2023. He brings extensive experience in the treatment of blood disorders and cancers, with a particular focus on bone marrow transplantation, cellular therapies, bispecific immunotherapies, and advanced oncological care. Dr. Mukherjee has been recognized for his clinical excellence, academic leadership, and commitment to improving outcomes for patients facing complex hematologic and oncologic conditions. He is also board certified in Internal Medicine.

He is also a member of several professional societies such as the American society of Clinical Oncology, American society of Hematology, American society for Transplantation and Cellular therapy and American board of Internal Medicine.

Treating his patients with an honest and compassionate approach, Dr. Mukherjee believes in giving his best to every patient he sees, no matter the complexity and treat them as if they were his own family. He views his profession as his life’s calling and purpose to take of patients and grateful every day to do so. In his free time, Dr. Mukherjee enjoys exploring nature, hiking, traveling with his family and cooking.
