Rehabilitation Programs
Multiple Myeloma Program
Our physical therapists provide education and training in a safe exercise program designed to promote safety and improved conditioning while paying close attention to body mechanics and posture for the prevention of injuries.
Head and Neck Cancer Program
Our physical and occupational therapists perform an assessment of your neck, shoulders, and jaw range of motion in addition to functional strength for performing daily activities. We acquire baseline measurements of your face and neck, provide specific instructions for exercise to improve function. We also educate you in lymphedema prevention and will establish a treatment plan as indicated by the assessment.
Breast Cancer Program
We follow the prospective surveillance model of care which includes a pre-operative baseline measurement of your mobility and arm volume. We then use these measurements as comparison at various points post-operative, during, and post cancer treatments. Our goal is to minimize or prevent any functional decline in addition to lymphedema.
Cancer-Related Fatigue Program
Our physical and occupational therapists provide skilled interventions and education in energy conservation and exercise prescription. Cancer-related fatigue is a common side effect of cancer and its treatment. Exercise has proven to be the number one intervention to help combat this issue. Our therapists can design an individualized program to meet your needs.
Chemotherapy Induced Cognitive Deficits (CICD) Program
Our occupational and speech therapists can evaluate and treat cognitive side effects of cancer treatment which may cause brain fog, short-term memory issues, word-finding difficulties, and trouble with organizational skills.
Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) Program
Highlands’ occupational therapists and physical therapists assess and treat chemo-induced neuropathy of the hands and feet through various techniques including proprioceptive and balance training, fall prevention education, desensitization, manual therapy, vibration, and modalities to include ultrasound.
Cardiotoxicity and Exercise Prescription
Our physical and occupational therapists at Highlands can mitigate symptoms related to drug cardiotoxicity through aerobic conditioning and individualized exercise prescription. We perform treadmill testing per the University of Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute treadmill protocol. Treadmill testing provides a measure of your peak VO2 which informs the therapist about the exact exercise dosage needed for an accurate prescription without further compromising your cardiac health.
Vestibular Rehab
Our physical therapists have received specialized training in vestibular disorders which may be related to your treatment drugs or other factors. We can provide a differential evaluation to distinguish between central or peripheral etiologies to establish an appropriate treatment plan.
