Specialty Medications

Thank you for choosing Highlands Pharmacy. Your provider prescribed a specialty medication as part of your treatment regimen and these types of products require special assistance and extra time to dispense because of insurance requirements or patient assistance documentation.

Step I: Prior Authorization

Most specialty medications require prior authorization which means your provider must submit additional paperwork to your insurance company. We started this process and it may take up to 72 business hours for your insurance to approve or deny coverage. We will contact you as soon as we have the information. If you do not hear from us within 72 business hours, please email RxPtAssistance@hogonc.com or call your pharmacy.

Step II: Patient Assistance

Specialty medication is expensive and often results in extremely high insurance copays. At Highlands, we will work with available patient assistance programs and grants to find funding to help offset your out-of-pocket expenses. We ask that you provide the requested financial information as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary delays. This information can be emailed to RxPtAssistance@hogonc.com or dropped off at your pharmacy.

Step III: Prescription Delivery

When Highlands Pharmacy has completed the above, we will call you and let you know that your prescription is ready to be picked up. Refills will also be managed by Highlands Pharmacy and we ask that you call us at least 72 hours before you need your next prescription.

Unfortunately, several insurance companies and manufacturer programs restrict access and will not allow Highlands Pharmacy to dispense your specialty medication. If this happens, we will send your prescription to the designated specialty pharmacy and they will contact you to arrange delivery by mail. Some key points to remember:

· If you have questions for your insurance company, please contact the customer service number listed on the back of your prescription drug card.

· Your prescription was forwarded to the required pharmacy. They will call you in the next few days. It will be an unknown number, so please be sure to answer the call. If you do not receive a phone call within 48 business hours, please email RxPtAssistance@hogonc.com or call your pharmacy.

· Your medication will arrive via FedEx/UPS. Please be sure to verify your delivery address with the pharmacy to ensure your prescription arrives at the correct location.
